The Clackamas County Children’s Commission Policy Council is an important part of the Head Start and Early Head Start review and decision-making process. Members are parents/guardians of currently enrolled children and community members who are elected into the council on an annual basis as representatives of a specific center. Policy Council members are responsible for:

  • Attending meetings with the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Reviewing meeting materials, including policies, work plans, financial reports, and bylaws
  • Voting on new policies, grants, budgets and program changes
  • Participating in the hiring process for new employees
  • Providing council meeting reports to families at monthly center gatherings
  • Representing the interests and ideas of families at their center
  • Networking with other passionate, engaged parents from around the county

In addition to serving as a voice for the center and the community, Policy Council members also enjoy the following benefits at our monthly council meetings:

  • Dinner provided
  • Childcare on site
  • Reimbursement for offsite childcare
  • Reimbursement for gas to and from each meeting
  • Door prizes
  • Program training
  • Opportunities to participate in agency committees, such as fundraising and curriculum committees
  • Opportunities to attend state meetings and conferences, all expenses paid, including childcare
